Beijing got its second round of snow last night. Unlike the first time the snow actually stuck to the ground and accumlated up to a few inches of snow. As a Colorado native the sight of snow does not strike me as surprising. Though to the many other international students here at Peking University (mainly the Koreans) were overjoyed and were cheering from the top of their lungs. A few of my hallmates scrambled out to frolic about until 2 am. I should have gone to bed earlier....why didn't I.

When it comes to anything in China (which I will further discuss when I have time) efficiency does not exist? Does anyone know about common sense? I guess it just doesn't snow a lot in Beijing.
When there is snow you shovel it the minute it blankets the ground what do you do? You shovel it. If the government is going to cloud seed and bombard the sky with thunder (I swear I heard planes when the thunder hit) then someone should invest in a few snow plows. It's not that hard.
Plus you don't bike when there is snow on the ground!! And it is pretty difficult to bike through that caked slushy snow right? And you call yourself the "Harvard elites" of China.
I've been studying non stop whether at the Bridge Cafe or in my room. I spent all of Sunday there, ordered lunch and dinner. Bring it on!

Breaking news: Thundersnow in Beijing
After Lisa came and we all had a fabulous acoustic session I went back to study. Simply listening to some music while I browse around on my computer when I hear this crashing boom that caught the attention of my roomate (Sarah) and me. I rip off my headphones. It sounded like a cannonized boom. Light snow flakes were hitting the ground an hour ago when I got back from the Bridge Cafe in Wudaoko (The Beijing version of Boulder's "The Hill") but as we thrashed the curtain open and saw a blanket of white. Minutes later another crackling erupted in the heavens. Thunder? Was that really thunder? A thundersnow storm? Very rare. I don't even remember discussing it in my ENJOYABLE "Atmosphere 1050" lecture last spring. Then after looking up "thunder snow" on google it led to an article on wikipedia. Mostly thundersnows are very rare and they mostly happen with "Lake effect snows." Or a normal thunderstorm rolls in or snow storm...but again rare.
Lake effect snows. I have heard of that before, but that occurs around a large body of water. Beijing isn't even close to...a large lake. Other people came out to look at the snow. But let's take it back a second. How is this a phenomenon for us? Most of my hallmates attend university where there is heavy snow. Okay back to bed. Then Keegan came out of his room. He found it very strange to have a thundersnow. "It's the end of the world." He whispered.
I'm going to bed. Let's pray for school to get canceled.

Snow is falling down in Haidan district! Does the concept of a snow day exist here? I have yet to find out. *cross fingers
As of last week I am cured of the flu. The doctor was right and I'm relieved to know it was not Swine flu, sadly a few others or just a friend in particular did indeed get swine. I'm really surprised the University or the government abducted her and threw her in a prison cell.
Nothing interesting to note on this day. Actually I will say that my ear was suffering from a cyst. There was a large purple bump on my earlobe. Not fun. Luckilly with some hot soaks I managed to make the stupid little bubble explode. Explosion of blood! Not really more like slowly trickling down...down down my neck.
Midterms for electives....this will be fun. I need to remain focused on Chinese, hence my problem. New sights and distractions...oh boy.
Lisa snubbed Andrew's guitar and improvised a few songs including one about my infected ear. A few highlights include her "Vegetarian baozi (shu cai bao zi)" dedicated to Sarah, Christian's love for coffee and cigarettes and roommates.
