Devotchka @ The Paramount

"You already know how this will end" -Devotchka
So I am pretty blessed to have seen Devotchka in two different atmospheres; the first one was when I went to an E-town session with Jess and saw them peform with no audience participation. and last night I ventured down to the Paramount with Jess and Peri to see them live at their annual Valentine's Eve show.

One of the songs Devotchka played last night at the Paramount Theatre was "How it ends" and it happens to one of my favorite songs. I heard Nick Urata sing this song before during an E-town session and hearing it live has such a magic to it that I"m trying to describe. I am always moved by that song anytime I listen to it, it resonates throughout my mind and soul. I guess it just strikes a note in my heart.

The concert last night was by far one of the most incredible shows that I've been to. The line up band Quixote got the night ready for everyone with their fusion of Romanian gypsy with a hint of punk rock. This is why I love bands like Devotchka, a fresh and new taste on music that has much tradition and heritage.
All the songs that they performed last night made my senses go wild, it was like a rush into my system. Music is basically my drug, the euphoria took me flying.

I thought the first song they belted out "First Push" (from Little Miss Sunshine) was the perfect touch to start the night, it was just filled with raw energy, Nick was just going nuts on the guitar. Then the next song ("DEVOTCHKA!") showed that the excitement was not leaving any time soon, passion and pleasure for the ears was like a fever. I loved their string quartet playing those 16th notes in a frenzy, amazing. When Nick pressed his mouth to his double mic (one's a modern/50's style), I could see how he loves Devotchka and it looked like everyone was having a great time performing for a pretty packed theatre.
Jess and I were making observations on how attractive the musicians were playing on stage, especially Nick Urata. What is it about him that sends (well..my heart soaring?) is his demeanor. Getting to see what he was like during the E-town session was not so much an eye opener, but removed the essence of a mere stranger off his chest. I loved his humor, and hey I'd tap that.
