The drive to the Olympic park: pretty terrible. Heavy, congested, but we finally made it to the Olympic village. We aw the Birds Nest light up with red and orange illuminating lights. Sadly the Water Cube was closed for construction. Merrin was a swimmer, she was even more dissapointed that it was closed. :(
My perception of the Beijing Olympic area has plummeted. illegal souvenir vendors are everywhere trying to sell you glass models of the Bird's nest. The English signs are POORLY translated, which baffles me. The grounds are not well maintained, there is trash everywhere (mostly cigarettes) and the site of 3 fast food places is also disconcerting. Chinglish signs everywhere. Did someone forget to hire a translator? Someone clearly used google translate.
