So there are definitely beautiful areas in Henan. Zhenghzhou is not one of them, but Luoyang is. There's a fascinating history here. Shaolin is also a great place to understand where Zen Buddhism came from. Thank you India for your cultural wisdom.
The longmen grottoes are mountains that have been carved with so many Buddhas and Buddhist art from various dynasties. It's mainly Northern Wei and Tang dynasty. However there are distinctions. During the Wei dynasty artisians carved Buddha as athletic, muscular and a bit skinny. Then when the Tang dyansty rolled on by the culture shifted. Plump women were considered to be beautiful. Real women do have curves. So the Buddhas became fatter.
Also people believed that the more carvings=more blessings from beloved Buddha.
